Energy Boost Trail Mix

While doing my recent January detox I found it near impossible to find healthy, whole food snacks when out and about. It can be really tough to have all meals planned when really busy or constantly on the go, so I created a new delicious real food snack. I like to keep a stash in my car and in my bag so I know that if I’m getting hungry or “hangry” I have something very healthy and nutrient dense to keep me sustained for quite some time!

I love this snack, because it is incredibly easy to make and bring wherever you go. It has a great mix of healthy fats, protein and antioxidants to keep you sustained for hours.

A little spot light on some of my favourite heavy-hitting ingredients

Pumpkin seeds: I love these bad boys for a couple reasons. They have very heart healthy omega 6 fats and a great dose of protein to keep your muscles and immune system strong! A great dosage of zinc, that is great for skin health and helpful for man health; prostate protective and sperm enhancing!

Goji berries: These bright red dried berries are rich in antioxidants and actually have 5x the amount of vitamin C oranges do ounce per ounce. They add a really sweet, almost candly like taste to the trail mix.

Cacao nibs: Rich in antioxidants, minerals and energizing theobromine. Cacao nibs are a great alternative to coffee and help enhance alertness.  They also have great levels of fibre to keep those bowels moving.

Dried white mulberries: A rich source of vitamin C and iron. These tasty little berries also provide resveratrol, a highly potent antioxidant (the one found in grapes and red wine).

Enjoy your new on-the-go energizer!
