Orange-grape steak salad
One Sunday night I was trying to figure out what to have for dinner and decided to just use exactly what I had in my fridge. I had salad greens, steak from Berretta Farms some grapes and orange. I’ve yet to have oranges and grapes on a salad, but it turned out that these two fruits complement each other perfectly, are delicious and nutritious to boot. See the recipe below:
Orange-Grape Steak Salad
- 4 ounces hormone/antibiotic free steak sliced
- 1 + ½ cups arugula and baby kale mixed
- Small handful roasted pecans
- ½ an orange sliced
- ½ cup grapes of choice
- Balsamic vinaigrette
- olive oil
method of preparation:Prepare your steak as you please. I grilled mind on the foreman grill and it turned out great. As your meet is being grilled prepare your salad. Lay the salad greens on your plate first. Place oranges and grapes on top of salad greens. Drizzle salad with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. This should only take you 15 minutes. Simple, delicious and easy on the waistline.
My favorite part of the salad was the coronation grapes from Niagara-on-the-Lake. Every year at the end of summer coronation grapes are harvested and are readily available throughout southern Ontario. These are among my absolute favorite fruits. I like to keep them frozen and then take them out of the freezer when I want to enjoy snack. The skins of these grapes are jam-packed with a potent antioxidant called resveratrol. This is the antioxidant that is found in Red wine and is renowned for its anti-aging and cardiovascular benefits.
