Redesign Cereal Version 1.0

As a child I grew up with several important friends. Unfortunately they must remain un-named as I don’t need to be receiving a letter from any major companies. They’re typically seen on the front of boxes in the form of a tiger, toucan or vampire. I’ll be honest I was crushed for the first time when I found out they weren’t real and for the second time when I found out the products they endorse (which I obviously loved) are unhealthy and void of any real nutrition (not including the mandatory synthetic vitamins). What am I talking about?? Sugary, processed cereals.

Lately cereal has been getting dumped on by many health enthusiasts and health professionals; and rightfully so. But, today I want to distinguish between boxed manufactured cereal and the technical definition of cereal. Cereal is defined as :

a. A grass such as wheat, oats, or corn, the starchy grains of which are used as food.

b. The grain of such a grass.

In this definition you can see cereal has nothing to do with sugar or processing. This post is intended to help you make the most delicious cereal with only the best grains and superfoods! When I make cereal I always choose a sprouted grain cereal. I really like the sprouted grain Ezekial cereals made by the company Food For life. Sprouted grains have started the growing process by being placed in water for a few days. When a food is sprouted it becomes a living food, making it far more digestible and also increases its nutrient profile. Many people have trouble digesting wheat these days, but sprouted grains may just do the trick if you are sensitive to wheat. Enjoy!

Redesign Cereal Version 1.0


  • ½ cup Foods for Life Sprouted Grain Cereal
  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp bee pollen
  • 1/8 cup blueberries
  • 2 tsp Mum’s original vine ripened banana powder
  • 1 cup almond milk

method of preparation:

This is easy peasy. Simply combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix together. **Note: If you want more protein in this bowl, blend in a half scoop of protein powder with your almond milk. I recommend a harmonized vegan protein powder**

method of consumption:

Pretend you’re five years old again and about to dig into your favourite sugary cereal. Put the cereal in your mouth and realize how much BETTER this tastes than any of the cereals you used to eat. Finish your bowl of cereal. Wait 15 minutes and see how energized this meal makes you compared to sugary cereals. Try not to judge my former besties too harshly; it’s not their fault.
